Manufacturing of parts (final products) from metals (metal blanks) with a complex internal or external configuration requires the use of special machine tools.
It is a kind of rather rare, but demanded equipment. It includes the so-called broaching machines , which are divided into 2 main types:
- For external broaching of the part surface.
- For processing by pulling the internal cavities of the product.
The schematic diagram of their structural arrangement and operation consists in the use of a special cutting tool, usually made of high-speed steel grades. Products of a rectangular or round shape of a certain length, on the surface of which the cutters themselves are located, made in the form of teeth. Each such tooth (starting from the first) is slightly higher in height than the next similar incisor.
The tool fed, depending on the type of machine, sequentially or in a rotary-translational format, after a full pass along its entire length through the inner or outer surface of the workpiece, provides:
- Smooth removal of metal (chips) to the required depth.
- High quality of cleanliness obtained after surface treatment.
Smooth running (pulling) eliminates the occurrence of high temperatures in the places of processing and deformation of the workpiece being processed. This technology is most widespread in the production area, where it is precisely the internal broaching with a complex configuration of the manufactured part that is required.
Choosing and buying broaching machines
Broaching machines belong to a rather scarce type of machine tool equipment. Due to the specifics of their use to perform certain (specific) technological tasks, they are divided according to the principle of their device (for example, vertical or with the possibility of using various movements of the workpiece itself) and equipment (the simplest manual models or high-tech CNC devices).
